Lewis and Upshur counties

June 5

The grounds of Jackson’s Mill served as the location of our June Board of Governors meeting. We were truly grateful to have two outstanding leaders in higher ed, Gene Budig and Peter Magrath, present to speak to our board. After lunch, complete with cake celebrating the Smith-Lever anniversary, we took a quick tour of the grounds where we saw the mill in action. The mill is an impressive expanse that allows our young people to grow in talents and leadership skills.

Following the meeting, we traveled to Buckhannon to meet with West Virginia Wesleyan College President Pam Balch. What a delightful conversation that was much too short. We left to visit The Artistry on Main, a wonderfully vibrant artist co-op that featured the talents of local residents.

I am reminded how important partnerships are to the success of any project – whether it be a collaboration between universities, a creative effort between community members or the success of a state.

This 55-county tour is already proving to be an invaluable experience, and I am looking forward to many other stops, which include the State Fair in Lewisburg and the Boone County Pig Roast in Madison.

Hope to see you along the highways and byways.
